Iced Golden Milk Bulletproof Latte

Bulletproof Golden Milk

We all know I’m a sucker for turmeric, as I’m sure you are too, so this classic iced golden milk latte, with a bulletproof twist, is the perfect recipe to get your day going strong.

As I’ve previously mentioned in my Golden Milk Oats recipe, turmeric is a pungent spice, with incredible anti-inflammatory and gut healing properties. But when overdone, turmeric can wreak a bit of havoc on the body. When you have a sensitive, inflamed gut, it’s best to start slow and steady. Rosalee De La Foret mentions the importance of taking things slow, when introducing new medicinal amounts of herbs, in her book, The Alchemy of Herbs. Too much of a spice that your body isn’t used to, can actually cause diverse affects, including nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramping, and change in body temperature.

Following Rosalee’s thought process, I have found that it helps to start in increments of 1/4tsp, simply because I have no idea how my body will react to a higher amount of a powerful herb. On my good days, when I’m not having a flare up, I love increasing this recipe to 1tsp spice servings, to really get the full, robust flavor of these beautifully, aromatic spices. But, when my system is feeling a little sensitive and inflamed, I stick to my smaller dosage, just to be extra extra cautious towards my body.

Your body may not be as sensitive as this, and might even be able to handle the full 1tsp amount you’ll find written in several other recipes. But, I still encourage you to taste test and try, as you may not know how much of the turmeric flavor you actually like in your coffee! So, personally, I believe it’s worth experimenting with.

Recipe

Serves One

Prep Time: 5 minutes

What you’ll need:

1/4 tsp organic ground turmeric

1/4 tsp organic ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp organic ground cardamom

1/8 tsp organic ground ginger

a few pinches of freshly ground organic black pepper

a drop of organic alcohol free vanilla

1 cup organic homemade plant mylk

1-2 tbsp Bulletproof MCT Oil (depending on your preferred dosage)

1 double shot of espresso (I like to use Bulletproof whole coffee beans, medium/medium to dark roast, because Bulletproof coffee is organic and mold free!)

You’ll need a blender of some sort for this recipe, whether it’s a milk frother or a regular blender. We love our handheld milk frother by PowerLix, which can be found on Amazon. It’s super easy to use, and makes for a seamless and quick, on the go morning. But as of late, I’ve been throwing the latte ingredients into our Vitamix, and have been loving the outcome! When blended in the Vitamix, the latte comes out so creamy and frothy, perfect for pouring over ice.

Pour the double shot of espresso into a glass, along with the Bulletproof MCT Oil, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, ground ginger, vanilla, and black pepper. Use a hand blender, (we love our blender) and blend the ingredients until they’re properly mixed together, without spice and oil separation. Fill the rest of the glass with ice, and pour your homemade plant mylk in, and enjoy this iced latte! Feel free to add a little honey or maple syrup to sweeten!

If you prefer a higher dosage of these herbs, keep every other element of this recipe the same, but simply increase the 1/4tsp servings in this recipe, to 1/2tsp and eventually, 1tsp.
